this case has become something very close to me for a few reasons.
I am a local in the area, and our area was recently taken over by a national case. The Mickey Shunick Case.
Let me give you guys a little back ground in case you haven't heard of it.
On May 19, 2012 21 year old (Would now be 22) Mickey Shunick left her friends home on her bicycle to go home at about 2 a.m.
She was riding not too far from the college she attends, which is a largely populated college town, Lafayette Louisiana.
She vanished without a trace.
Her friends and family began campaigning to get her word out.
The news quickly spread, and "mickey" was a name all of us locals knew. Then it became national coverage.
About a week after her disappearance, surveillance footage of a place next to the route she was on took a shot of her riding and being followed by a white truck. The white truck was seen on surveillance on other roads almost "looking" for someone to victimize.
Shortly after, her bike was found at Whiskey Bay exit, where a victim of serial killer Derrick Todd Lee had left a victim.
The area was searched but no clues came up.
Time went on, and there were slim to no clues about Mickey, despite their being a poster on every pole around the state.
Law enforcement received thousands of tips, slim amounts providing real clues.
But then in early July, a break through came in.
33 year old sex offender Brandon Scott Lavergne was arrested for the disappearance of Mickey.
Lavergne had been in jail from 1999-2008 for breaking into a womans home, blind folding her, tying her up, putting a knife by her, and making her perform oral sex on him.
He was briefly married in 1999, less than a year, when his wife divorced him after he came into work, grabbed her by the throat and began punching her. Before that, he had tried smothering her. She changed her daughters last name (Brandons daughter) and got full custody. Shortly after, Brandon was convicted of his sex crime and put into prison.
After tips regarding Brandon and maybe being linked to Mickey, A search of his home turned up many horrific things, such as numerous womens ID's, belongings and other things that the public can not know about at this time.
In his home, they found enough evidence (That hasn't been released) to convict Lavergne of aggravated kidnapping and first degree murder.
Brandon also tried to trade in his vehicle for a model exactly like it, but was denied. Hiding a bunch of evidence perhaps?
He tried paying the DMV 500 dollars to get sex offender removed from his license. And last but not least, drove his truck seen on surveillance to Spring, Texas, where he burned it. He reported it "stolen".
The day of Mickeys disappearance, BSL took THREE trips to three different hospitals, all hours away from each other, with numerous "stab wounds" all over his body. Yes, our Mickey put up a fight... poor thing. He claimed he was lost, stopped at a gas station and was "mugged" by a white man with gold teeth, wearing a Saints football jersey. But conveniently couldn't remember "where" he was when this happened.
During his indictment, we all found another surprise.
Brandon was charged with the 1999 murder of a young woman named Lisa Pate.
Brandon had been a suspect in her murder, but there was never enough evidence to convict him.
A search of his home, must have proved he was keeping a "prize" of hers that linked him to her murder.
Her remains were found in October 1999 right before he was married. She was murdered on around July 3, 1999.
Her remains were found with just bones under a few boards next to a cemetery.
Our community was shocked because a few days ago, we got word that Mickey Shunicks body had finally been found.
It was buried in a semeep hole not far from a rural cemetery about 40 minutes from where she was last seen.
The story i just wrote doesn't do this justice.
This man is truly a creep, and if you read into his past, you will see.
LE is now investigating other murders he may be involved in.
I really do think his name is going to be hailed as a very famous serial killer.
I think there may be many more that he killed.
He's been killing since 1999.
I can only imagine how many murders he's committed since his release in 2008.
This is one man you all want to keep your eye on.
I really won't be surprised if he is one of the most notorious killers in the country.
I can't shake that he bears strong resemblance to texas serial killer, Kenneth McDuff.
Brandon Lavergne was adopted at birth, and never had a connection with his biological mom.
Growing up, he had fascinations with digging up bones, burning things, he was just all around "odd".
Someone that is married to his biological half-sister says there is absolutely no connection between McDuff and Lavergne. So I guess my guess of any relation is out the door!
He has plead guilty and is now in Angola prison for life.
However, all of the other cases against him are being looked into.
One being a popular Texas case for the abduction of Ali Lowitzer.
Everything about this guy will make you feel very weird about him. He's very strange.
And a pathological liar.
when i was searching pics of mcduff and lavergne for the lookalike thread i came across quite a few forums where a possible family connection had been raised - all debunked, mainly because the dates don't work, but rest assured you're far from being the only one to wonder about it.
btw after reading your first post i looked into lavergne more closely. he really is interesting, thanks for bringing him up.
i knew brandon his whole life,he didnt have a good upgrowning yes he did wrong and should be in jail,but you have a few thing wrong he did know his real mother and all his real mother,s family. his real father got killed in a car wreck when he was about 15.his daughter name wasnt changed until about 2010 when brandon went to court to fight to see her.brandon and his ex wife were married 1999 to 2000 her new husband didnt want brandon to see his daughter.when he hit mickey with his truck he was playing on his phone,when he went to see about her,she didnt want the cops called because she had drugs on her and he had been drinking.how did he have a prize from lisa his brick house burned down in 2011 and he was offshore,his new trailer was only about four months old when they arrest him.in 1999 the coroner said they didnt know how lisa died,brandon says he found her on the bathroom floor ,she had OD their was drugs and a crack pipe next to her,mickey started stabbing him beacuse he said he would give her 100.00 for her bike and she demanded 500.00.yes he beat lisa and yes he shoot mickey and he is paying the price.but his not a serial killer.the whole story still isnt out thier and the girl in texas brandon had a green full size GMC until 2011,so wait until all the fact are out because you start telling storys
im writing the life story on brandon,when it comes out you need to read it it will tell you alot about the things he did and why and also about his adopted famiy and real family,it will be called a branded man

mickey's only crime here was fighting for her life after this asshole knocked her off her bike, forced her into his truck and attacked her. she used mace on him and managed to hurt him with his own knife before he got the knife back and stabbed her. he later shot her as well after finding her still alive when he tried to bury her in a field.
for you to defend him and try to justify his actions as reasonable is obscene.

perhaps you're the one who should be taking note of a few facts.
this guy is a registered sex offender with aggravated sexual assault convictions who has also confessed to two murders and is suspected of more, including the disappearance of 15-year-old alli lowitzer. he may not yet fall within the classic '3 murders' definition, but he IS a serial killer.
im not tying to get anyone upset,im just saying ive read what the police think happen,ive read what the new reporters have said and ive also heard what brandon said he said to the cops and court,i do beleive he feels its his fought for the deaths of the two girls,i just want to read what he wrote to the courts and cops when he pleaded guility,to see if any of what he says has any truth to it.he will be in prison for life and one day he will met his maker and be daled with.oh the news said as soon as he shot mickey she was dead,so she wasnt alive when he tried to burier her.im not a serial killer fan,i just like seeing all the facts.he did say he beat lisa and blooded her nose,then later found her in the bathroom dead with drugs,his beating and the drugs could had something to do with death,if she was doing drugs and he had not beat her she may still be alive.way wasnt her case all over the news she was a person to.she was a mother,a sister and a daughter,just asking.

For one, NO there was no damn crack pipe found next to her.
Quit riding Brandon Lavergne, and trying to make Mickey look like she's the bad one.
I really can't stand people like you. You need to go seek attention elsewhere. It's obvious you didn't know Brandon, or any that went on in this case, because everything you said was WRONG.
Brandon's real mom wanted nothing to do with him.
His sister in Texas has said that numerous times.
and good thing she didn't want anything to do with him.
I hope to God you're joking about writing a book.

You won't play the pity card with me, and most by saying "Oh poor Brandon, no one knows the whole story." Everything he's ever said has been a lie. He lied about why he was a sex offender, telling about 20 different lies. He lied about everything in his life, including to his wife, his fiance, his friends, his family, anyone.
I'm not going to have one more person defending this guy over Mickey, or Lisa.
Oh and by the way...
Since we are on the subject.
My best friend, one of the most shyest people in this world, had her things found inh is home when she's never even met the man. Can you say stalker? Is he misunderstood for that too?
And no.
He had a white extended cab truck during the time of Ali Lowitzer's disappearance.
He traded it in this past year in March.
Wrong again.
There was the wallet and drivers license of a woman who has been missing from Texas for months.
He told his fiance a story about a woman he picked up on the side of the road in her 50s, in texas which fit the description of the missing woman.
Is he misunderstood with that too?
Funny, all these girls go missing around him, yet people like you still trying saying you dont know the real Brandon blah blah.
Have you ever considered by the abductions, rapes and murders that perhaps none of YOU ever knew the real Brandon?

I'll stick to defending Mickey, Lisa, and his other victims.
He IS a serial killer.
